California Sunday is committed to preserving the privacy of its readers and users. This policy outlines the handling of users’ personal information that is submitted at any point in the site. The information is used only in the ways specified when it was collected. That information is not shared in any other shape or manner otherwise.

Consent

By using our web site and mobile apps you consent to the use of your personal information as described in this Privacy and Data Policy. Except as set forth in this policy, your personal Information will not be used for any other purpose without your consent. We will not actively collect personal Information for the purpose of sale or marketing in a way that specifically identifies the individual. In other words, we don’t sell customer lists. You may withdraw your consent to our processing of your personal information at any time. However, withdrawing consent may result in your inability to continue using our web site, apps, and/or other services.

Types and uses of personal information

In order to purchase a story on California Sunday, you must first create an account with a username and password. The registration system requires a valid email address–used to confirm the account. Accounts are backed up regularly, if the user changes the information on his or her account, California Sunday’s stored data backups may include the user’s original information for up to six months. Separately, when any California Sunday administrators are emailed, the addresses and correspondence are retained. This information is saved to respond to issues and inquiries of all types.

Credit card information

For collecting payments for purchase of California Sunday stories, we utilize the payment processing service Stripe, which stores all credit cards securely. California Sunday does not store any user credit card information on our own servers.

Aggregate Data Collection on Reading Habits

The California Sunday application on iOS, Android, and other devices, as well as the California Sunday web reader, may collect certain non-personally identifiable information, such as how you utilize the app and how long and which multimedia components you take advantage of. California Sunday anonymizes this information and does not connect it to your identity. This data is stored securely on our servers and is used to enable us to understand broad trends in how people are reading and utilizing our content, in order to better serve our readers.

If you prefer that the California Sunday app not collect any anonymized information about your reading habits in our iOS apps, you can go to Settings->Apps->California Sunday->Disable Analytics Data Collection, and turn it off.

Aggregate Data Collection on California Sunday Feature Usage

California Sunday may collect certain non-personally identifiable information on the users of California Sunday, such as how many stories you create and publish, and which features you use. California Sunday anonymizes this information and does not connect it to your identity. This data is stored securely on our servers and is used to enable us to understand broad trends in how people are creating content in our system, in order to better serve our readers.

Mailing list

If you send us your email address to be added to our list, we will not share it with anyone outside of California Sunday Inc. We use email addresses only to send occasional updates on our latest stories and other news about the California Sunday and its stories that we think our readers might be interested in.

Information sharing

Aggregated reading and demographic information about our audience may be shared with third parties, including browser information and traffic statistics. This data is not tied to any individual readers' accounts or personally identifiable information.

Personally identifiable information

No personally identifiable information is shared with third parties, with one limited exception: in situations in which California Sunday must disclose personally identifiable information about a user if we have a good faith belief that doing so is required by law, such as pursuant to a subpoena or other judicial or administrative order.

Cookies

A cookie is a small text file that is stored on a user’s computer for record-keeping purposes. California Sunday uses cookies on this site. Some of the information stored in cookies is sometimes linked to readers' accounts.

California Sunday uses both short-term cookies and persistent cookies. A short-term cookie expires within a limited period of time. Session cookies are used so that readers with accounts can navigate California Sunday without logging in multiple times over a short period of time. A persistent cookie remains on the user’s hard drive for an extended period of time. Persistent cookies are used to recognize account holders and present the site accordingly. Users can remove cookies by following directions provided in your Internet browser’s “help” file.
